| Help and Advice
Before you try on any wedding gowns, there are a few things you can do to help White Lace find the perfect gown for you. We highly recommend bringing no more than two people with you. Wedding dresses are very personal and many different opinions can sometimes hinder more than help.
Choosing Your Gown
For your first visit to White Lace, the following guidelines may help you to be prepared:
- Give yourself plenty of time. To allow us to give you the quality time and attention you will need, your first visit can take 1-2 hours.
- We recommend coming on a week day if possible - Thursday /Friday after 12pm. Saturdays from June to September tend to be busy as our brides will be collecting their gowns ready for the big day.
- We advise that you bring only 1 or 2 special friends or relations with you. This will help you reach a decision with a lot less confusion.
- It is advised that you have spoken to the groom about the style of gown you are going to wear. You both need to be aware of how the other is going to be dressed.
- Try to wear a strapless white bra and full seamless briefs – these will give you the best shape and allow the gowns to sit correctly.
- We wouldn’t like our brides to feel intimidated or obliged to make any purchases on their first visit. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will listen to your ideas and offer expert advice and suggestions.
- Please do not bring cameras or video equipment into White Lace.
- Try not to bring any small children with you as they may become bored during the length of your visit and we do not have facilities for pushchairs.
- White Lace sample gowns are range from size 12 to 30.
It is important to wear a gown that flatters your shape, but when looking through magazines, how do you know which gown will suit you? We have put together a rough guide to the style of dress which is likely to suit your figure.
The Hourglass Figure
You will have curvaceous hips and bust with a small waist. A bias cut gown will accentuate your curves so keep the detail on the gown classic and uncluttered. The neckline should be simple in order not to make your bust look large.
The Triangle
You will have a small bust and curvaceous hips. A small bust enables you to wear a range of bodices with special detailing, like embroidery, beadwork or lace. A full skirt will make your waist look small and disguise fuller hips. Empire line gowns are also very flattering for your shape.
The Inverted Triangle
You will have a full bust and narrow hips. The classic lines of an A-line or princess gown would look best on your figure as these gowns do not sit too close to the body but fall away elegantly. An empire line gown may also suit your figure, as the shape gives the illusion of re-proportioning the body.
The Rectangle
You will have a straight rather than curvy figure. You may want to create the illusion of curves with a bodice and full skirt. Or you may wish to accentuate your figure by wearing a column dress
How far in Advance should you start to look?
You should start to look for your gown approximately 12-18 months before your wedding. This will allow you to take your time and find the gown that you are truly happy with.
At White Lace we have a 7 months ordering system. Some of our designers offer a rush order if you do not have time, but this will come at an extra cost. Your gown will be ready for your first fitting 2 months before your wedding.
When you come for your first fitting, you can then choose the accessories, ie. head dress, veil or shoes, to go with your dress. We recommend that you choose your accessories with the actual dress you will be wearing. Please note that if you are not buying your shoes or accessories form White Lace, they must be available to ensure an accurate fitting.
